Marburg

Marburg is pretty small with about 80.000 citizens and the city is about 80 km in the north from Frankfurt. Marburg is university town, faculties are spread all over the city.

Since 12 th century Marburg is town. Marburg has the oldest Protestant University in the world (founded 1527).

Everywhere in the town you can meet university students. 20 000 students are studying in Marburg.
Marburg has beautiful Gothic old town. During epoch of Romaniticism Marburg played a major role.
There are lot of different bars and cafes in Marburg.

Marburger Schloss - castle above the city.

bike tour 2

I upload some photos from bike tour we did some days ago. This was a kind of short trip with about 25 km. Small warm up for futher tours:)

On the Main river live different swans and wild ducks. Swans prefer the part of Main near Offenbach, we don´t have so many swans in Frankfurt.

We have horse races in Frankfurt, in Offenbach they have dog races:)

Skyline of Frankfurt, view form the bike road between Frankfurt and Offenbach.
and again one photo of skyline. There are many families on sunny days so going by bike is not easy.

International Cartoon Contest [Canada]

I sent three cartoons to the cartoon contest today. I hope cartoon will arrive in Canada in time .

The idea behind the contest is follow:

"More than 80 journalists have been killed in the line of duty in 2006. Many have been deliberately targeted because of their investigative reporting or dissenting views such as Anna Polikovskaya in Russia, and Lebanese publisher Gebran Tueni. Many methods are employed to curb the free press: kidnapping, intimidation, unjust jailing, and expulsion of foreign correspondents. Killing the Messenger has become a preferred method"

My cartoons (I apologize for bad quality of fotos)...

biking tour

Dear blog readers,

from this moment I want to take time to add text to postings. Two days ago I and my brother made a trip along Main river on R3 bike road. R3 bike road is called "Rhein-Main-Kinzig-Radweg". The 240 km long bike road goes from Rüdesheim am Rhein along the Rhein, Main, Kinzig through beautiful baroque town Fulda till Tann in the natural park Rhön. We used the first warm day (about 15 C°) for a small trip. We started in Frankfurt and drove in direction of Mainz. After Mainz there are a lot of castles on both sides of Rhein but we also have some small in Frankfurt:)

On the Main river there are some sluices.

Wild ducks and swans like these also made trips on this day:)

The landscape along Main river is beautiful, I would say surrealistic on some places. These are places where artist get their inspirations:)

Next to Frankfurt there are a lot of industry. Like in quarter of Frankurt called Höchst. On lot of places there is such view on Main. Most time bike road goes parallel to river.

And these is how the bike road looks like..

After two hours we had to cross river using a kind of dam.

Lot of people used the sunny day for a short walk along river. Especially we met families close to the small towns and villages along Main. On this photo you can see typical German family in front of typical rural German village houses:)

This is view on the right side.

This village was a kind of villages you can often see in Hesse, especially outside of bigger cities. Here the time seems to stand:) Comparing to Frankfurt - other world:) Medieval atmosphere.

Never ending road - like river of time. Stupidly we forgot to take enough food and 95% of restaurants were still closed ("Season will start in three weeks", we were told by a strange old man from the village above.)

Kleingarten (garden plot) is typical for Germans isn´t it? Especially people in cities use to have one. Kleingarten has someting nostalgic. People remembeber times of their grandfathers who owned a farm. Some are also pround to grow some tomatoes by themselves and they show thode tomatoes to eberebody and let them sometimes taste. Some people also use graden plot to forget the porblems outside the garde, just to relax or as retreats. My garden plot is my castle^-^

Outside of cities, far from factories, you can find fields with different kind of plants (like radishes in this case I think).

Art club in a tower next to Main river - I think its a great location for an art club.

Home of some dwarfs or who can live in a home with 50 cm front door?

Of course there is a church in this village too.

At the evening we took train back to Frankfurt. Home, sweet home. .
